Texas Bomanite partnered with Morphosis and Beck to deliver a custom polished concrete solution for the Crow Museum of Asian Art at UTD. The project included 28,000 SF of high-gloss polished concrete for public-facing areas and 9,700 SF of honed matte concrete for functional back-of-house spaces. With a focus on precision and craftsmanship, Texas Bomanite executed a design that met the architectural vision while ensuring long-term durability.
The first-floor lobby and Level 2 exhibit halls feature 28,000 SF of Class D large aggregate polished concrete with a striking high-gloss, 3,000-grit finish. The custom concrete mix, developed in collaboration with the architect and Custom Rock, created a seamless blend of design and durability. Decorative sawcuts were added between control joints in the lobby to enhance the aesthetic appeal. To achieve the desired result, the floors were initially ground before wall construction and protected with the Skudo HT Commercial System during ongoing work. The final polish was completed just prior to painting, ensuring a pristine and reflective surface that elevates the museum’s architectural impact.
The back-of-house exhibit storage areas on Level 2 were finished with 9,700 SF of polished and honed concrete. This 400-grit matte finish balances durability and functionality while maintaining a sleek appearance suited to the museum’s operational needs.
The polished concrete floors at the Crow Museum of Asian Art seamlessly blend form and function. The high-gloss finishes in the lobby and exhibit halls enhance the elegance of the public spaces, while the matte-finished back-of-house areas offer practical durability. This project highlights our ability to deliver exceptional polished concrete solutions for architecturally significant spaces.
