University of North Texas Auditorium
Built in 1924, the Auditorium is one of the oldest buildings on the University of North Texas campus. Originally used by the music and theater departments for performances, the university desired to have a dual-purpose for the space: to be used as both a performance venue and a lecture hall.
During the first phase of the project class was still in session and Texas Bomanite was brought in to resurface the concrete flooring beneath the seats. Once school concluded for the winter break, the seats were replaced, which was the third time since the building was built that the seats had been replaced. Because the new seats assembled and anchored differently into the concrete flooring, we faced a unique challenge to patch the old holes and anchors, rendering them undetectable, and also to transition the floor from concrete to the carpet flooring in the walkways.
We recommended our Micro-Top Concrete Overlay System to complete the task, which was the perfect choice not only to patch the holes the old seats left behind and yield a seamless look, but also to get an exact color match. The project called for a color match to a Sherwin Williams paint color and the end product turned out beautifully!
Approximately 5,460 SF of concrete was patched and overlaid with Bomanite Micro-Top, then sealed with a polyurethane sealer for a low maintenance, smooth finish.
Representatives for the university have said that the new finishes (also including new carpeting, paint, lighting and acoustics) honor the historic integrity of the building, while allowing for technological improvements that help professors cultivate an engaging learning environment for students.
We are very pleased to have been a part of this challenging project and proud of the end product. For more information about UNT and the Auditorium, visitΒ www.unt.edu.
