Philbrook Downtown is a satellite expansion of the original 23-acre Philbrook Museum main campus in midtown Tulsa, Oklahoma. Philbrook Downtown is located within the Mathews Warehouse in the Brady Arts District, and will provide 30,000 SF of gallery space to accommodate their expansive Native American art and modern and contemporary art collections.
Texas Bomanite contracted with Manhattan Construction Company (Tulsa) to install the polished concrete topping slabs inside the 90-year-old building. The topping slabs varied from 3” to 5” and all were poured over extruded polystyrene foam (XPS), which also varied in thickness. The specialty lightweight concrete (supplied by Dolese Brothers Co.) was a 7-sack mix and contained a custom blend of Bomanite Coquina and Nickel Gray integral pigments as selected by Gluckman Mayner Architects. The special needs of the museum required many embedded item including an art storage system, all of which required special finishing considerations. The Scofield Formula One polishing system was installed as specified. As museum visitors travel throughout the museum, the floors contribute to the openness and neutrality of the space, allowing them to focus on the artwork it contains.
