Grasscrete has been a Bomanite System for over 20 years with installations throughout North America in all types of climates. Achieved through the use of two different techniques and three different tools known as “formers,” Grasscrete is void structured concrete–a pervious pavement system that does not rely on fine aggregate concrete. Grasscrete can be cast using proven mix designs with no potential for freeze thaw or clogging issues. It can be used as an exposed utilitarian product for functional applications or as a concealed system with vegetation such as grass (as seen above) or native ground cover installed over the concrete. Grasscrete helps LEED® accredited professionals in accruing points toward a LEED certification of a particular building or project. The selection of a Bomanite Pervious Concrete System is one of the easiest ways to achieve points in the reduction of heat island effect, management of storm water runoff, use of recycled content incorporated in the application process, as well as in the concrete and sub-base, and satisfies the long life span and low-maintenance requirements. Bomanite Pervious Concrete Systems are highly sustainable with a low life cycle cost and have the ability to be recycled and used in a future project. Our flagship system, Grasscrete, has been utilized since 1982 throughout the United States with millions of square feet installed to date. The latest developments with the Bomanite include bio-degradable formers or molds, as well as improved application techniques and processes allowing for the construction of exposed surfaces.
